Child net porn teacher jailed for a year

A TEACHER was yesterday jailed for a year on child porn charges.

Physics teacher Brendan Leonard, 35, worked at Portobello High School. But in his spare time he shared child porn with other paedophiles on the internet.

Police seized his home computer in June 2004 as part of Operation Falcon, but the teacher then disappeared from his home in Leith.

He eventually appeared in court in September last year, and was released on bail.

At a court hearing last month, Leonard admitted taking indecent photos of children, or permitting them to be taken, between March and June last year.

Yesterday, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Sheriff Gordon Liddle sentenced Leonard to a year in jail.

And, under a three-year extended sentence, Sheriff Liddle banned him from coming into contact with children under 16 unless he had special permission from his supervising officer.

Operation Falcon was a nationwide investigation tracking perverts through credit card details entered into internet sites.
