BOOTS AND BAGGINS!

If you went along to see Mud when they were on the road recently, you'll have noticed Bilbo Baggins, who were supporting them during the tours.

You may remember Bilbo - they're the group who're managed by Tam Paton, who of course is manager of the Rollers!

But there are a lot of difference between Bilbo and the Rollers. Rollers may have started a worldwide craze for tartan, but according to keyboards man Brian Spence Bilbo have started a few trend their own!

"A lot of the time, we follow fashion," he told me, "but sometimes we can be leaders too. For instance we started a craze in Scotland for wearing Blue Jays baseball boots. A lot of our fans started wearing them after they'd seen ours.

"We think they're really comfortable - ideal for just fooling around in. And another good thing is that they're pretty cheap. A lot young people can't afford to buy shoes too often, but if they get Blue Jays, it won't make too much dent in their pay packets!"

But quite apart from their clothes and their music, there is another difference between the two groups. The Rollers are all pedigree Edinburgh people (Edinburgers) but Bilbo confess that they have foreigner in their midst!

"We all come from the same housing estate in Edinburgh," says Brian. "All except for Gordon Liddle that is. He's from Glasgow! We think Edinburgh's a much nicer but naturally, Gordon doesn't agree!"
